Working in Practice

This page explains how to use the current Practice routes in VerityLaw without assuming hidden matter-management features that are not exposed in the UI.

Product: VerityLaw
Module: Practice
Role: Legal operator, practice manager, case coordinator, support staff
Difficulty: Beginner
Time: 8 to 12 minutes
Last Updated: 2026-03-10
Version: Current repo baseline

Before You Start

  • Confirm you are in the Practice section of the left sidebar.
  • Have the client name, case details, or document status ready before creating new records.
  • Use Navigation and Layout if the menu labels do not match what you expect.

What does Practice cover?

In the current dashboard, the Practice area covers:

  • Dashboard
  • Cases
  • Workflows
  • Clients
  • Documents
  • AI Legal

These routes support daily legal-operations review, basic record creation, and document or AI landing pages.

Where do you find it?

Primary path: Sidebar -> Overview and Practice
Main labels: Dashboard, Cases, Workflows, Clients, Documents, AI Legal

Start-of-day SOP

  1. Open Dashboard.
  2. Review the top cards first:
    • Active Cases
    • Overdue Deadlines
    • Open Assessments
    • WIP Total
  3. Check Recent Activity and Upcoming Deadlines.
  4. If the tiles are empty, treat the page as a high-level status view and move into the task-specific route you need.

Working in Cases

Review existing cases

  1. Open Cases.
  2. Use the status tabs:
    • All
    • New
    • In Progress
    • Under Review
    • Closed
  3. Review the table columns:
    • Reference
    • Client
    • Type
    • Status
    • Priority
    • Lawyer
    • Deadline
  4. If the list is empty, use New Case.

Create a new case

  1. Click New Case.
  2. Complete the required fields:
    • Client Organisation
    • Case Type
    • Title
  3. Complete the optional fields if you have them:
    • Description
    • Priority
    • Assigned Lawyer
    • Deadline
  4. Click Create Case.
  5. Confirm you return to the Cases list.

Honest scope note

The current Practice UI gives you a create-and-list case flow. It does not expose a case-detail route or row-level edit action from the Cases table.

Working in Clients

Review client organisations

  1. Open Clients.
  2. Review the client table:
    • Name
    • Industry
    • Size
    • Cases
  3. If the organisation is missing, click New Client.

Create a new client

  1. Click New Client.
  2. Enter the organisation details first:
    • Organisation Name
    • Registration Number
    • VAT Number
    • Industry
    • Organisation Size
  3. Complete address and contact details.
  4. Save the client record.
  5. Confirm you return to the Clients list.

Honest scope note

The current Clients route is also a create-and-list workflow. There is no visible client-detail or client-edit route in the current dashboard tree.

Working in Documents

  1. Open Documents.
  2. Use the status filter buttons to narrow the list:
    • All
    • Draft
    • In Review
    • Approved
    • Sent
    • Signed
  3. Review each row for:
    • Name
    • Client
    • Status
    • Version
    • Template
    • Created date
  4. Use the list to confirm document state before telling a colleague or client that the document is ready.

Honest scope note

The Generate Document button is visible, but the current route does not expose a confirmed generation wizard or document-detail flow. Treat this page as a register and status board unless your environment adds extra wiring.

Working in Workflows

  1. Open Workflows.
  2. Review the available template cards:
    • Case Lifecycle
    • Document Approval
    • DSR Processing
    • Invoice Approval
  3. Read the short description and the step count or Unavailable badge on each card.
  4. Use the page as a template catalog first.

Honest scope note

Only the workflow landing page is confirmed in the current route tree. The linked per-template routes are not present under dashboard/workflows, so this page should be treated as a catalog rather than a full workflow runner.

Working in AI Legal

  1. Open AI Legal.
  2. Review the two currently exposed tool cards:
    • Clause Risk Assessment
    • Contract Health Check
  3. Read the AI warning at the bottom of the page before relying on output.
  4. Treat AI results as legal-review support, not as final legal advice.

Honest scope note

The current AI Legal route is a landing page only. The deeper tool routes are not present in the confirmed route tree, so the page is best used as a feature index.

Common mistakes to avoid

"I created a case, so I expected a full matter workspace"

Why this happens: The current Practice routes expose core creation and list views, not a complete matter workspace.

Fix: Use the list views for tracking and creation, and do not promise record-detail workflows that are not visible in the UI.

"The document button exists, so generation must be fully live"

Why this happens: A visible action button does not always mean the complete follow-on workflow is exposed.

Fix: Confirm what happens after the click in your environment before training other users on it.
